Over 30 years of helping athletes up their game

Since its inception in 1985, the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI) has been a beacon of excellence in sports science, partnering with top researchers and institutions like Ohio State University, Yale University, and the University of Texas. Founded by Dr. Robert Murray, the GSSI began its journey in Barrington, IL, establishing the Gatorade Exercise Physiology Lab, which later expanded into the Sports Science Institute in 1988. Over the years, GSSI has forged partnerships with facilities like the IMG Academy in Florida and the Satellite Facility in Frisco, Texas, amplifying its impact on athlete performance and well-being.

At the core of GSSI's mission, to help athletes optimize their health and performance through research, innovation, education and service in hydration and nutrition science, lies a commitment to groundbreaking research, exploring the intersection of nutrition, exercise, and physiology. Through cutting-edge labs and collaborations worldwide, GSSI scientists delve into biochemistry, metabolism, and body composition, driving innovation in sports nutrition. By funding external research studies and supporting student grants, GSSI nurtures a global network of researchers, fostering advancements in sports science.

Beyond research, GSSI champions innovation and education, ensuring athletes have access to the latest scientific insights. From developing groundbreaking products to providing educational resources for professionals, GSSI's influence resonates throughout the sports community. Through athlete testing services and advisory boards, GSSI empowers athletes, coaches, and practitioners to unlock their full potential.
